Since the 1970s, Javier Mariscal has been an active member of the international design community spanning multiple disciplines including illustration, film, furniture, textiles and more. Born in 1950 to a large family in Valencia, Spain, he later moved to Barcelona to study art. In 1980 his first furniture designs were presented at the Memphis International Style Exhibit in Milan. Two years later he was awarded the National Art Prize in Madrid, Spain and participated in the 1987 Kassel Documentary. The Estudio Mariscal was established in 1989 paving the way for numerous commissions and collaborations with such companies as Alessi, The New York Times, Santa & Cole, Vogue, Magis, and Phaidon among many others. A widely celebrated designer, Mariscal was awarded the Premio Nacional de Diseño in 1999, been included in exhibitions at the Georges Pompidou Center in Paris, and received retrospectives at the London Design Museum. Today the designer continues to work on several new creative projects.
