Minimalia:
Italian Art from the
Second Avant-Garde

Wright is pleased to announce Minimalia: Italian Art from the Second Avant-Garde, an exhibition and auction that focuses on Italian art produced between the 1960s and early 1980s. This period saw the development of a number of art movements such as ZERO, Gruppo T, Gruppo N, Pittura Analitica and Arte Povera that paralleled American Minimalism. While the practices of these groups are in dialog with North American Minimal painting and sculpture, they represent a uniquely Italian vision that influenced the international avant-garde of the time on its own terms.

Inspired by a reflection on the MoMA PS1 exhibition Minimalia: An Italian Vision in 20th century Art curated by the internationally renowned Achille Bonito Oliva in 1999, this exhibition and auction features works by Italian artists central to the history of twentieth century abstraction. Highlights include works by Enrico Castellani, Lucio Fontana, Salvatore Scarpitta, Mario Merz, Giorgio Griffa and Grazia Varisco among others. The exhibition opens on October 6th and will be on view through October 20th.
