I approach my material on tip-toe so as to avoid brusquely awakening it from its cosmic lethargy [...] with a technique also made up of respect and love of its nature. I do "with it" what it seems to want me to do with it. This is how "our things" come into being. Yes, indeed, I said "our." Because they are only half mine. The other half belongs to the nature of the material with which I have now established a correspondence of feelings of affection.
