Roberto Coin is an esteemed jewelry designer known for his classic yet innovative designs inspired by his Italian heritage and the diverse cultural surroundings he grew up around in Europe. Coin was born in Venice. Shortly after his parents’ untimely passing, Coin was sent to a Swiss boarding school at a young age where he eventually studied hospitality management. Coin then became a hotelier at the age of 24, working across the continent in several cities, including in Guernsey, Channel Islands. Eight years into his career, Coin decided to pursue jewelry making instead, following his passion in fashion and knack for business. Roberto Coin joined the manufacturing side of the jewelry business in 1977 in the city of Vicenza, Italy’s jewelry capital, aptly nicknamed the “City of Gold.” In 1996, Coin established the eponymous firm to focus on his own brand.

This tradition is the designer’s thoughtful gesture to bring “health, happiness and long life” to those who wear his jewelry, which Coin believes to be the power of rubies.

Notably, Coin was awarded the Platinum Design Award in the Trends category at the 2011 Swiss BaselWorld and the Palladio International Award for the best brand in corporate social responsibility in 2013.
