Swedish-born potter Patrick Nordström (1870-1929) is considered one of the greatest pioneers of Danish artistic stoneware production. He trained as a joiner and woodcarver before eventually attaining a position at Royal Copenhagen where he worked from 1912 to 1922 as head of the stoneware department. Influenced by East Asian and French pottery, Nordström created elegant, artistic forms with rich, varied glazes and left an indelible mark on the trajectory of Scandinavian ceramics as a whole.
