Exceptional Works by Carlo Scarpa

We are privileged to offer two exceptionally rare pieces by Carlo Scarpa in this sale. Works from the A Fili and Pennellate series were exhibited for the first time at the Venice Biennale in 1942, and very few genuine examples have appeared on the market in the ensuing years. The A Fili and Pennellate series share a great deal in common beyond their beauty and technical mastery. Composed of faintly iridescent glass with colored glass applications—in bands and brushstrokes—these vessels possess a hypnotic quality due in part to the depth and variation of color and transparency. 

Both the A Fili and Pennellate vases in this sale were acquired by American collectors traveling in Italy in the 1950s and have been handed down from generation to generation. We were thrilled to learn of their existence and are pleased to present them together here.
