John Vugrin & the Kellogg Doolittle House

Described by the New York Times as “the most unsung great residence in America by one of architecture’s least-known major talents,” the Kellogg Doolittle High Desert House is a stunning residence located on the northern edge of California’s Joshua Tree State Park. Built by architect and Frank Lloyd Wright disciple Kendrick (Ken) Bangs Kellogg for Bev and Jay Doolittle, the home is a dramatic work of Organic Architecture built from concrete and glass, with marble and bronze interiors. Described as the “unsung hero of the home and Kellogg’s protege,” interior designer John Vugrin was “discovered” by Kellogg when he was still in his teens. An expert craftsman, Vugrin collaborated with Kellogg around the globe and worked in tandem with Kellogg for two decades to complete the Kellogg Doolittle residence.
