Marcel Wanders’s Bon Bon Gold Chair

Begun in 1996, Marcel Wanders’s Personal Edition series comprises one-of-a-kind, limited edition works that embrace tactility and happenstance to merge industrial design with the intimacy of craft. As a part of this body of work, the Bon Bon Gold chair specifically evokes associations with the handmade through the use of crocheted rope, applied to the recognizable form of Eero Aarnio’s Pastil chair, designed in 1967. In addition to referencing Aarnio, the Bon Bon Gold chair also echoes Wanders’s own 1995 Knotted Chair, the design for which he perhaps best-known and which similarly combines traditional fiber art techniques with industrial materials and high-tech fabrication.
