Minimalism Meets Luxury

Tiina Laakkonen operated her eponymous business (referred to as “The Gap for billionaires” by the New York Times) for just over a decade, deciding in 2023 that it was time to close and pursue what she refers to as a creative reboot. Prior to opening Tiina the Store, Laakkonen studied fashion design, worked at Chanel under Karl Lagerfeld and as a fashion editor at British Vogue, and finally as a freelance fashion stylist in New York. Tiina the Store was born of her desire to have a place where she could edit and curate a space to sell her favorite things and tell her story. The shop, located halfway between East Hampton and Montauk, was a sophisticated and stylish space with minimalist furnishings that married perfectly with the selection of wildly expensive, minimalist objects for sale. This sleek bookcase by Peter Lassen for Montana Furniture served as a centerpiece of the décor.
