Bec Brittain made a permanent space for herself in the design world with the introduction of her SHY Light in 2011, which quickly became an iconic (and critically acclaimed) favorite of top designers and architects globally. Of that break-out design, Brittain notes, “[it] was the product that started the business. It was a simple thought I had of wanting to draw with lines of light—of just being as spare as possible.”
Formerly the Design Director for Lindsay Adelman, Brittain studied product design at Parsons, Philosophy at NYU, and architecture at the Architectural Association in London, and her innovative designs arise from the intersections of architecture, technology, and metalworking.
“[Brittain] deliberately eschews trends,” Ryan Waddoups writes for Surface magazine, “in favor of harnessing her clean-lined creations as subtle conduits that convey the mathematical, sculptural, and poetic themes that have steered her imagination since the beginning.”
What I like about American design is that it feels like there is a lot of soul in it. I think you can feel that somebody's hands were on it.
