Diskometal is a tin, lead and antimony alloy invented and used solely by Just Andersen to create vases, bowls, base lamps and small figural works. The material, whose exact composition is unknown, was more affordable than bronze and easier to work with. Its name, “disko” derives from “discount.” In the modernist Danish spirit of making good design accessible, Andersen’s diskometal imitated the look of highly patinated bronze for a fraction of the price.
