A Royal Affair

The Marcel Wanders Orange Vase Royal Copper

Expanding on national tradition held for decades in the Netherlands, the Marcel Wanders-designed Orange Vase Royal Copper was made on the occasion of the wedding anniversary of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. Since 1927, orange vases have been created to mark significant moments within the royal family as well as matters of national importance, and each work subsequently becomes a popular collector's item. This Royal Copper vase was produced as a collaboration with Royal Leerdam Crystal and the National Glass Museum. It is made from Cristal Superieur in a spherical shape with 12.5 lines to represent 12.5 years of marriage, or the "copper jubilee" as it is commonly celebrated in The Netherlands. Each vessel of the limited edition was blown and shaped by master glassblower—or Meesterglasblazer in Dutch—Marco Lopulalan.
