Wright Auction

Taking its inspiration from "the evolution of nature in design," Mimèsis, un design vivant was organized by the Pompidou Metz Centre and brought together 400 works by 90 artists. Tracing the 19th century emergence of biomorphism, which paralleled burgeoning modernity, the exhibition placed iconic modern designers (Alvar Aalto, Serge Mouille, Charlotte Perriand, and Charles and Ray Eames among them) in conversation with contemporary designers such as Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. The brothers, who have been partners in their own Paris-based studio since 1999, created this work at the institution's behest. As they put it, their "almost obsessive need to draw" is both an expression of a perpetual optimism as well as "a means to escape from what can at times be a hyper-rational, result-based industry." The brothers' works are included in multiple permanent collections, including the Musée National d’Art Moderne – Centre Pompidou, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Design Museum in London.
