Wright and LAMA are proud to present Jayme Odgers, Over and Out, honoring the visionary contributions and lasting impact of the groundbreaking graphic designer and artist. This January 24th auction surveys Odgers's life and career, from his early signage for the IBM Pavilion at the 1964 World's Fair and subsequent innovative work in commercial graphics, to his seminal role in establishing California New Wave Design which included many close collaborations with April Greiman ranging from the 1984 Olympics fine arts poster to their audacious, proprietary “Space Mats,” as well as his more recent fine art and self-portraits.

The collection spans an impressive range of Odgers commissions, including comprehensives, posters, and prints made for Rolling Stone magazine, Peter Shire Studio, Architectural Pottery, Herman Miller Furniture, Fleetwood Mac, the Bee Gees, California Institute of the Arts, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and more.

Odgers's original perspective and enthusiastic disregard for disciplinary boundaries helped to seed a new, postmodern cultural aesthetic that proliferated internationally on album covers, advertisements, and even the Olympics. And while Odgers infused everything he touched with a distinctly futuristic edge, his practice was firmly rooted in the advent of Modernism in the early 20th century, as well as the traditions of legendary graphic designer Paul Rand, with whom he worked closely. A true original, Odgers found purpose in alchemizing the commercial and the spiritual, analog and digital, figurative and abstract – creating a body of work all his own in the process.
