Aaron Garber-Maikovska b. 1978
Aaron Garber-Maikovska is a Los Angeles-based artist whose work spans painting, drawing, performance, and video. He decided as a child that he wished to be an artist and went on to study with Doug Hall at the San Francisco Art Institute and with Paul McCarthy at UCLA, where he received his BFA. Though he works in diverse media, his oeuvre is united by an intense interest in movement and gesture through rhythm, repetition, and creative play. Garber-Maikovska considers the body as more than a tool or means for navigation and describes its role in making art as “a centralized perceptive sphere of emotional, physical, conceptual, and spiritual inquiry.” He has exhibited in Los Angeles, Paris, New York, Milan, London, and Oslo and his work is held in the permanent collections of the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington D.C., Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Pérez Art Museum, Miami, and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis.
