Art does not come from thinking but from responding.

Corita Kent

Corita Kent

At just 18 years old, Sister Mary Corita Kent entered the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart, a progressive order which encouraged hard work and creativity. A self-taught artist and arts educator, Kent’s colorful Pop Art imagery touched the masses with its affordability and Democratic outreach. Kent later left the religious order to pursue a career in the arts and keenly used her work to critique current events while spreading her message of love and tolerance, a message that through the decades continues to be on point.
