The objects in "Mondrian's Glasses and Pipe" are simple geometric forms; the glasses are common, manufactured articles, yet we are shown their refined sculptural qualities, which Mondrian must have admired. These objects were used daily: their austere clarity, their beautiful geometry. Kertész took a few personal possessions, objects of extreme simplicity, and composed a picture that speaks to the artist's being. The artfulness of life clearly challenged Kertész.
