In 2001, Galerieexpressns in Hamburg asked Marcel Wanders to design an object for the gallery's anniversary. In response, the artist asked the gallery to purchase 100 cans of soup to feed the homeless people in the community. Once empty, the remaining cans were gilded and sold, with the proceeds used to support charitable organizations.
