gelatin silver print 5 h × 4 w in (13 × 10 cm)
Charles and Ray Eames created holiday cards to share with their friends and family. The present lot was sent to textile artist Marianne Strengell, who taught at Cranbrook Academy of Art from 1937 to 1942 and then took over as Director of the Weaving and Textile Department, a position she held until 1961. This playful image, featuring a plywood sculpture the Eameses created in the 1940s, was among a selection of Eames designs included on commemorative stamps released by the United States Postal Service in 2008.
Signed and inscribed to verso 'Best of 1943 for you....C. Happy New Year from me too, Marianne...XXX Ray'.
