provenance: Crédit Lyonnais, Paris | Private Collection, Paris
The present lot is from the interior of the Crédit Lyonnais headquarters in Paris, the largest bank in Paris at the turn of the twentieth century. The Dutch/French architect William Bouwens van der Boijen designed the impressive building, which was constructed between 1876 and 1883. In the Haussmann style, both the architecture and the furniture of the interior made aesthetic references to the grand historical tradition of French royalty.
