In this work, L.O.V.E. stands for Libertà, Odio, Vendetta, Eternità (Freedom, Hate, Vengeance, Eternity). Cattelan has said that the sculpture is an anti-fascist statement, where the fingers are not flexed but cut off, undermining the hand salute of Italy's fascist history.
