American Design

Information View Lots

Wright continues to present the only auction dedicated to 20th century American Design. From the iconic designs of Charles and Ray Eames to the signature simplicity of George Nelson, this curated sale features works that defined the progress of a nation and spoke to the American dream.

American Design occurs in Chicago on February 21st at 12 pm central.

Warren Platner lounge chair and ottoman $3,000–5,000

Hugh Acton Long live-edge bench $2,000–3,000

From the Studio of Hugh Acton

Michigan-based artist and designer, Hugh Acton worked throughout the second half of the 20th century in a style that blended the best of the American craft tradition and Scandinavian mid-century design. He is most known for his pioneering “Acton Stacker” (the first stacking chair with arms) and his epochal wood and metal slat bench.

Wright is presenting nearly forty works from the estate of Hugh Acton, including rare early prototypes, later marble sculptures, as well as his most popular wood and metal mid-century furniture.
