Charles and Ray commissioned Los Angeles metal fabrication company, La France to fabricate the first metal frames for their molded plywood chairs. La France models can be identified by the tapered weld where the backrest is mounted to the frame. Ultimately, Charles and Ray cancelled their contract with the company after only a few examples were produced.
