Powell and Kleinschmidt expanded Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona daybed design to a king-size platform with slats that adjust to various parts of the body. Sold with a bedspread of raw silk (not shown) sourced from Gretchen Bellinger whom Powell had hired in the mid-1960s to source textiles for a library installation he was working on for SOM. Bellinger left SOM in 1976 and became one of the most influential designer/dealers in the textile industry.
