In 1928-1930, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe designed the Tugendhat Villa and specified all the furnishings for this modern home; his Tugendhat and Brno chairs were first introduced with this renowned commission. Donald Powell and Robert Kleinschmidt worked with a Toronto-based manufacturer to develop a special alloy for the production of this pair of chairs. Following the original plans, this pair of chairs uses this alloy for increased tensile strength and durability.
