Lina Bo Bardi 1914–1992
Lina Bo Bardi, the noted Italian-émigré architect, was born Achillina Bo in Rome in 1914. After studying architecture at the University of Rome in 1940, she moved to Milan and founded the firm “Studio Bo e Pagani” with fellow architect Carlo Pagini. That year her career took off after she began working in Gio Ponti’s office. Later, following her marriage to Pietro Maria Bardi, she moved her practice to São Paulo, Brazil where she became directly influenced by Brazilian culture and history. Here she co-founded the influential art magazine Habitat and designed the exceptional “Glass House” which was lauded as the pinnacle of rational architectural theory.
