Important Minguren I bench from Melody Woods III, Princeton
Important Minguren I bench from Melody Woods III, Princeton
East Indian rosewood 15¼ h × 74 w × 19¾ d in (39 × 188 × 50 cm)
The furnishings for Dr. Arthur and Evelyn Krosnick represent the best of George Nakashima’s work. In 1989 a fire destroyed the Krosnick's home and most of the custom Nakashima furniture inside. This Minguren I bench was made by George Nakashima to replace the example lost to the fire and it is nearly identical to the first. This piece was cut from the same slab of East Indian rosewood as the original, a wood that had become increasingly scarce as George noted in 1985: "Rosewood is now extremely rare due to an embargo on logs." George Nakashima did not live to see the completion of many of the replacement works for the Krosnicks, this bench is amongst the few works that he personally oversaw.
Sold with a copy of the original drawing. Signed to underside: [George Nakashima April 18 1990].
