This form is a test example of the tables produced for Braniff airlines. Originally, the welded x-section in the center of the base was designed for a smaller top, however, late in the process after the final castings were made, the design was changed to accommodate a larger top. Girard chose this particular granite because it is highly stain resistant and impervious to typical stress fractures; he also liked the unique sparkle of the minerals in the stone.
