This chair is the original prototype created by Knoll for the low cantilevered lounge. At the request of Mies van der Rohe, Howard Dearstyne loaned one of his three MR 30 lounge chairs to Knoll to pattern production requirements for the design of the chair. Knoll returned to Mr. Dearstyne the prototype chair instead, keeping the original chair.
