Beginning in 1929, Ponti steered the ceramic production of Richard Ginori away from the excess of his artistic "novecento" majolica and moved in a more severe, rationalist direction in the "Gran Rosso di Doccia" series. These vases often appear in photographs documenting rationalist interiors of the 1930s such as Baldessari's design for the Spadacini apartment (1932) and in room-arrangements by Franco Albini and Ponti for the 1936 Triennale.
