The bentwood processes, first patented by Michel Thonet, allow this chair to be lightweight, structurally sound, streamlined yet sculptural. The designer of this chair is unknown, although credit has been given to Josef Hoffmann, Richard Riemerschmid, and Henry van de Velde.
