A pioneer in the use of Lucite, Byng was interested in the relationship between light and three-dimensional space. Byng worked as a painter from 1953-1966, but turned to sculpture when his paintings started to suggest volume. He chose transparent materials because he wanted to eliminate form and instead focus on the reflection of colored light. Signed and dated underside with inscription: [A 26 8 - 3].
