Strengell was the director of Cranbrook's Weaving and Textile Design Department from 1942 to 1961. This exceptional rug and drapery was handmade by Strengell while at Cranbrook. The accompanying drapery was custom made for the Angove House in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, designed by Strengell's husband, Olav Hammarstrom. Both textiles were utilized in the home. Excellent examples of modernist American craft from an important artist at Cranbrook.
