Nouvel is a structural engineer and architect whose furniture designs are indebted to Prouve. Like Prouve, Nouvel incorporates folded steel as the structural element of the design. A slender profile is achieved by incorporating a folded metal understructure, which is inset from the top, allowing the table to appear as thin as possible. This table was designed for the Cartier Foundation in Paris and is a prototype of the production example offered by Unifor. This table was listed in the IF Hanover design top ten in 1994 and received the Apex award in 1994. The prestigious Compasso d'Oro was presented to Nouvel for this design in 1994.
