Soldner's floor pots were initially created as part of a master's thesis under Peter Voulkos at the Los Angeles County Institute of Arts in 1957. Soldner developed a technique of "extended throwing" allowing tall forms to be built up on a potter's wheel over several sessions. This is a fine example with a deep red and brown glaze, signed and dated in glaze [Soldner 59] on bottom.
