Saarinen originally designed this form for his model dining room at "The Architect and the Industrial Arts" exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1929. Charter Silver Company, a division of International Silver, put the bowl into production in three sizes. Stamped with impressed marks: [sterling SD 71 by Saarinen]. A similiar example is in the collection of Cranbrook Academy of Art.
