Hand painted bronze, from the edition of six 16 h × 11 w × 10 d in (41 × 28 × 25 cm)
(b. 1915 Comiso, Italy, d. 1997 Milan) A fine bronze by Fiume with unique hand painted decoration. The simplified forms of Fiume's work is reminiscent of works by his contemporaries de Chirico and Marini. Fiume was proficient as an architect, set designer, painter, ceramicist and sculptor. His work has been exihibited extensively including the Venice Biennale of 1950 and at the Royal Palace in Milan. Important set designs by Fiume were used at Covent Garden in London and the Teatro dell'Opera of Rome. In 1952, Fiume collaborated with Gio Ponti on the interiors of the ill-fated Andrea Doria luxury liner, and his work was acquired by Life Magazine for their headquarters in New York. Salvatore Fiume's work is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, National Gallery in Washington, D.C., and the Vatican. Provenance: Collection of the Artist.
