This monumental vase was created in 1967 as part of Paul Soldner's masters thesis under Peter Voulkos at the Los Angeles County Institute of Arts. Created in a process Soldner invented called extended throwing, allowed for such a large form to be created. This is one of twelve examples that were created between 1956 and 1957. Soldner went on to teach ceramics at Scripps college, where he and Voulkos rose to prominence as innovators in the new style of American ceramics. A large and early masterpiece of modern American ceramics. Signed in glaze on the bottom.
