Throughout the 1960s and 1970's, Joe Colombo created furniture and architectural systems that could be adapted to a variety of uses. One characteristic of the experiments of this period is portability. In the Tube chair, Colombo successfully combines portability and flexibility through the utilization of upholstered tubes that fit one inside the other. The tubes are interchangeable and held together by steel and rubber clips, allowing for a variety of chairs to be created, depending on the need or mood of the user.
