Paul McCobb was originally trained as a painter and worked in department store display and interior design before forming his own firm in 1945. In 1949, he launched the Planner Group that went on to become the best selling line of contemporary furniture in America. This floor lamp from 1954 illustrates McCobb's clean and sparse approach to design.
